Reunited U.K. indiepop outfit The Darling Buds have recorded a cover of The Go-Go’s 1981 hit “Our Lips Are Sealed” — written by Jane Wiedlin and The Specials’ Terry Hall — that will be released on the Neon Maniacs compilation on Cassette Store Day this October.
The song, which premiered this week at 50ThirdAnd3rd, can be streamed in full below. The Neon Maniacs cassette, which also will feature tracks by The Prissteens, Purple Wizard, The Hipshakes and more, will be released on cassette Oct. 14 by Girlsville Records in the U.S. and Nerve Center Records in the U.K.
The Darling Buds, from South Wales, formed in 1986, and split following the release of fourth and final album Erotica. The group reunited for a pair of shows in 2010, and has played sporadically since them. The current lineup features original singer Andrea Lewis-Jarvis and original bassist Chris McDonagh, guitarist Paul “Chaz” Watkins, who first played on 1990’s Crawdaddy album, and Matt Gray, who played guitar on Erotica. Erik Stams, a longtime friend of the band, is on drums.
The band released the 4-song Evergreen EP in April.
