The Futurismo label this summer will reissue the limited-edition Devo rarities set Recombo DNA! — described as a career-spanning “sonic fusion of demos, alternate versions and outtakes” — on 4LPs and a 3-inch mini CD in an expanded edition with seven previously tracks.
The collection, with material spanning 1977 to 2008, is due out Aug. 11, and will be available in three limited-edition colored pressings, all on 140-gram vinyl: “Petri Dish,” “Emergency Codes” or “Molecular Mutation.” The set includes a double-sided poster and liner notes by Gerald Casale, and also will be sold, naturally, in packages that include a Devo lab coat.
The Recombo DNA! collection originally was released in a limited-edition CD pressing by Rhino Reocrds in 2000. Futurismo’s reissue takes that collection and expands it to 48 tracks, including several audio clips of bandmembers talking, as well as six previously unreleased demos and versions of songs off Devo’s 2010 album Something For Everybody. Included on the bonus 3-inch CD: “The Something Suite,” originally intended for released in May 1989, according to the label.
Pre-orders are now underway at Futurismo’s webstore.

Wow, want a copy but even though I love vinyl this isn’t something I would necessarily want on vinyl. And mini discs instead of standard size? Pass, too bad they want to be cute instead of sell some products.
“The Somewhere Suite” (Studio Version Demo) is not previously unreleased. It was track 18 on the second CD of the original Recombo DNA release.
