The same day London’s Daily Mirror reported that the Stone Roses would reunite for “at least 21 gigs” in the UK this summer — as well as a possible slot at April’s Coachella festival in California — another Brit paper debunked the story.
According to the Daily Mail, ex-Roses frontman Ian Brown’s spokesperson issued a tart denial: “We know nothing about a reunion. Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year.”
The Daily Mirror had reported that guitarist John Squire, bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield and drummer Alan “Reni” Wren finally had convinced their erstwhile vocalist to reunite the legendary Madchester band.
“It’s taken a lot of time to get Ian to agree,” the paper quoted its source, “but he’s finally signed on the dotted line. The rest of the band were really up for it, especially when they realized the amount of money on the table.”
And so the Roses’ fans go back to waiting.
