Legendary noise merchants My Bloody Valentine took to social media today to tease… well, something… that will be happening on March 31. Could it be a new record from Kevin Shields and Co., a relatively quick follow-up to 2013’s 22-years-in-the-making third album mbv?
My Bloody Valentine today announced a short U.S. tour around its previously confirmed appearance at FYF Fest in Los Angeles this July, a six-date run of shows that will include stops in Seattle, Oakland, Calif., St. Paul, Minn., Chicago, Philadelphia and New York City. See full dates right here.
The time has come once again, it appears, to dust off our old MBV Watch feature, as rumors now are swirling about reclusive guitar-noise genius Kevin Shields being at work on a new My Bloody Valentine album — the follow-up to 2013’s mbv — for release sometime next year. Here’s what we know.
Touring this year in support of their long-delayed comeback record mbv, shoegaze legends My Bloody Valentine will play at least five concerts in the western U.S. this August in advance of the band’s headlining appearance at the FYF Fest in Los Angeles. It’s not yet clear whether more U.S. dates are planned.
So it appears “maybe two or three days” meant closer to a week, but Kevin Shields has kept good to his word as My Bloody Valentine tonight released the band’s 22-years-in-the-making follow-up to Loveless, a 9-track album called mbv that, upon news of its release, crashed the MBV site preventing anyone from hearing it for hours.
After announcing just before Christmas that their new album had just been mastered, My Bloody Valentine took the stage tonight in London for the first live date of the year, with Kevin Shields surprising fans by answering a heckler with news news that it could be released in “maybe two or three days.”
My Bloody Valentine delivered a Christmas surprise to fans, announcing on Facebook this evening that the band finished mastering its 21-years-in-the-making follow-up to the 1991 classic ‘Loveless’ three days ago. Whether the record still will be released online before year’s end, as Kevin Shields pledged, remains to be seen.
