Like Mission of Burma, Scottish indie-pop faves The Vaselines are on their way to becoming more prolific post-reunion than in their original incarnation, this week announcing their second post-reunion album, and only their third overall, called V for Vaselines.
The Vaselines will return to the U.S. for the first time in two years late this summer when the band — featuring founders Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee — performs club dates in New York City and San Francisco before playing a slot at Seattle’s Bumbershoot 2012.
The Vaselines made their American TV debut last night, playing the title track to their new album, ‘Sex With an X,’ on ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon,’ as well as a web-only performance of ‘Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam,’ the song made famous by Nirvana’s ‘MTV Unplugged in New York’ cover version.
This week’s new CD releases include new albums from Lloyd Cole (‘Broken Record,’ his first full-band effort in a decade), The Vaselines (‘Sex With an X,’ their first album in 21 years), Nick Cave’s Grinderman side project (‘Grinderman 2’) and James (the 2CD ‘The Morning After the Night Before’).
