David J, the former bassist of Bauhaus and Love and Rockets, has launched a Kickstarter campaign seeking to raise $30,000 from fans to fund the completion of his next solo album — An Eclipse of Ships, described as “a journal of the heart and a paean to Woman as muse.”

This week’s new releases include the first new album from Black Flag since 1985, plus a Nick Cave live album, reissues from David J, Lemonheads, Ghost Dance and They Might Be Giants, a posthumous collection from Rozz Williams, a new Lou Reed compilation and a long-awaited US Festival DVD.

As promised, former Bauhaus bassist David J released his “exquisite new cinematic interpretation” of the band’s iconic song “Bela Lugosi’s Dead” at 1 minute past midnight today, marking Halloween with his new 12-minute “Undead is Forever” remake that features piano work by Jill Tracy.

That 25th anniversary edition of Peter Murphy’s sophomore album isn’t the only Bauhaus-related title on Cherry Red Records’ November release calendar: The U.K. label also is planning a 3CD box set of Daniel Ash solo material as well as an expanded 2CD reissue of David J’s solo debut Etiquette of Violence.

David J is poised to release a new solo album called ‘Not Long For This World’ — featuring new songs and covers of tracks by Smog, Ed Harcourt, Tom Waits and Dennis Wilson — and he’ll revisit his Love and Rockets tenure by playing two California shows next week with tribute act Luv’n Rockets.

Daniel Ash — he of ’80s darkwave trifecta Bauhaus, Tones on Tail and Love and Rockets — turns 54 today, and to mark the occasion, we present this little nugget: It’s a promo for MTV’s ‘120 Minutes’ featuring a cue-card reading Ash and his Love and Rockets bandmates David J and Kevin Haskins that aired sometime around 1986.

For a band with just one album and a handful of EPs and singles, Bauhaus spinoff Tones on Tail already has been the subject of more than its share of compilations, and now comes another: ‘Weird Pop,’ a double-vinyl best-of that features at least one previously unreleased cut and several other rarities.

Back in March, we brought you a stream of ‘I Spit Roses,’ the first new single in more than six years from Peter Murphy.
