Fire Records next spring will follow up its collection of the first four albums by The Jazz Butcher, Pat Fish’s long-running U.K. indie-pop outfit, with a new box set called The Violent Years that compiles the next four LPs, all originally released on Creation Records between 1988 and 1991.

Ride stopped by Seattle’s KEXP radio station this past September while in town to promote the group’s comeback album Weather Diaries, and performed a 40-minute set for broadcast that included performances of four songs off that new LP and a couple of old favorites from Nowhere and Going Black Again.

The Fall’s planned seven-night residency in Brooklyn next year — which were to be the band’s first U.S. dates in more than a decade — has been canceled, as Mark E. Smith continues to recuperate from the health problems that already had forced the rescheduling of those shows.

As promised, Paisley Underground-era rockers The Dream Syndicate last night reunited onstage in Los Angeles with former bandmate Kendra Smith, who left the group after playing bass and singing on its acclaimed 1982 debut The Days of Wine and Roses. Watch the decades-in-the-making performance here.

A host of musicians — including R.E.M.’s Peter Buck and Mike Mills, as well as Alejandro Escovedo, members of Sleater-Kinney, The Decemberists, Drive-By Truckers and The Shins, and more — will perform two concerts in Portland, Ore., next month to raise money for Scott McCaughey, who suffered a stroke last month.

Tapete Records next year will release a box set compiling the complete recordings of the original six-year run of The Monochrome Set, a collection of 68 songs spread across six discs that collects the influential U.K. post-punk act’s first four albums and a host of singles. Industrial-metal giants Ministry this week announced they’ll release AmeriKKKant, their 14th studio album, in March, then hit the road for a 26-date North American tour to promote the record — which is preceded by first single “Antifa,” the music video for which you can watch right here. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today announced its class of 2018, a list that includes third-time nominees The Cars alongside Bon Jovi, Dire Straits, The Moody Blues and Nina Simone. Additionally, Sister Rosetta Tharpe will receive the Award for Early Influence. Not making the cut this year? Kate Bush, Depeche Mode and Eurythmics.

Film director Tim Pope finally let the cat out of the bag, today announcing plans to collaborate with Robert Smith on a “feature-length, chronological documentary of The Cure’s history from the 1970s via present day to the future” — a project that promises to include never-before-seen footage.

Pat DiNizio, the lead singer and chief songwriter for The Smithereens, the New Jersey-bred college-rock mainstays who recorded “Behind the Wall of Sleep,” “Only a Memory” and “Blood and Roses,” has died, the band announced tonight on its official website. He was 62. The cause of DiNizio’s death was not revealed.

David Byrne today announced plans for a short run of East Coast concerts next March at which he’ll test out a new stage concept that he’s calling his most ambitious since the 1983 tour by Talking Heads that Jonathan Demme documented with the film “Stop Making Sense.” See full dates right here.

After weeks of speculation about the band’s plans for 2018, The Cure today announced a giant 40th anniversary concert next summer in London’s Hyde Park with support from Interpol, Goldfrapp, Editors, Ride, Slowdive, The Twilight Sad and more to be announced. Tickets are available now via pre-sale.

American fans clamoring to lay their eyes on the new XTC  documentary “This Is Pop” — which premiered on UK television in October — finally will get their chance in January when the 75-minute film has its U.S. premiere on the Showtime cable-television network. The program will be available on demand, too.
