4AD this March continues its Cocteau Twins reissue series with new repressings of the dream-pop masters’ second and third albums — 1983’s Head Over Heels and 1984’s Treasure — on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl and in “digital HD audio” versions for the download enthusiasts out there.

The Dream Syndicate stopped by the studios of Seattle’s KEXP radio station in September while touring in support of the band’s excellent reunion album How Did I Find Myself Here?, recording a 35-minute session and interview that is now available for all to see. Watch it right here.

The Afghan Whigs and Built to Spill will team up for a 24-date North American co-headlining tour this spring, taking their alt-rock guitar stylings out on the road for a tour that opens April 11 in Madison, Wisc., and wrap ups May 15 in Seattle. Tickets for all shows go on sale this Friday.

News of the sudden and unexpected death of Cranberries frontwoman Dolores O’Riordan this week at the age of 46 continues to ricochet across the music world, with artists from R.E.M., U2 and Duran Duran to Tonya Donelly, The The’s Matt Johnson and Peter Murphy paying tribute to the beloved singer via social media.

David Byrne today announced a massive, 80-date world tour in support of his album American Utopia, a trek that will keep him on the road from early March through the end of August, accompanied by a 12-piece band performing “the most ambitious show I’ve done since the shows that were filmed for ‘Stop Making Sense.’”

The surviving members of The Smithereens took to the stage in Red Bank, N.J., last night to pay tribute to their fallen bandleader, Pat DiNizio — performing a marathon set that found the band’s members joined by special guests Steven Van Zandt, Dave Davies of The Kinks, Marshal Crenshaw, Ted Leo, and more.

Little Steven Van Zandt is hosting a concert tonight in New Jersey to pay tribute to the late Pat DiNizio of The Smithereens, a show that will be streamed live online and will feature DiNizio’s surviving bandmates fronted by Van Zandt, as well as Patty Smyth and Scandal. Simple Minds today debuted the second single off their forthcoming album Walk Between Worlds, a 5+ minute track called “The Signal and The Noise” that the group says “revisits the glassy guitars and new wave grooves of the post-punk era.” Check it out for yourself right here.

Cleopatra Records a four-song Duran Duran demo recorded in 1979 and featuring early singer Andy Wickett on vocals, a collection that includes the original version of hit single “Girls on Film” and a song called “See Me Repeat Me” that later would be re-worked into the song “Rio.” Stream it here or buy the EP.

The Retro Futura package tour will return to the North America this summer for a month-long run with a lineup topped by co-headliners Belinda Carlisle and ABC, plus Modern English, Haircut 100’s Nick Heyward, Kajagoogoo’s Limahl and Bow Wow Wow’s Annabella. Full dates are expected later this winter.

Following records with Brian Eno and St. Vincent, former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne will release his first solo album in 14 years in March, a 10-song collection called American Utopia that the singer describes as an un-ironically titled “attempt to depict the world we live in now.” Listen to the first single right here.
