Matt Johnson continues the slow roll-out of The The’s highly anticipated return to the concert state, announcing four more U.K. concerts this September around the newly resurrected band’s appearance at Festival No. 6. After repeated reschedulings and scheduling gymnastics, Peter Murphy — still unable to get a visa to come to the U.S. from Turkey — has pulled the plug on this month’s 15-night San Francisco residency, pushing all of the dates to June and July. Robert Smith, founder and only constant of The Cure, has been tapped to hand-pick the lineup for the 25th installment of London’s prestigious Meltdown festival this June, following in the footsteps of past curators such as David Bowie, Yoko Ono, Morrissey, David Byrne, Nick Cave and more. Still waiting in Turkey for his U.S. visa to be approved, Peter Murphy has now rescheduled four more concerts of his planned 15-night residency in San Francisco, doubling up shows on three nights of the run to cram 12 concerts into 15 nights at The Chapel venue. Looking to mount a rare U.S. tour this summer, the band — led by Barry Andrews and Carl Marsh — is again turning to its fans to help fund the trek.
