It’s now less than a month before New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills release their new album Snow Bound, and Martin Phillipps and Co. have premiered the third track off the record: the chunky rocker “Scarred,” which you can stream here. This follows the release of two songs off the record last month.

Though not officially announced, it appears a major archival project is in the works from R.E.M.: a nine-disc CD/DVD boxed set of BBC recordings that currently is listed for pre-order via Amazon in the U.K., along with a 2LP “best of” set culled from that larger collection. We’ll pass on more details as they emerge.

The Cocteau Twins’ latter-period work — spanning the years 1993 to 1996 — will be compiled this fall on a new four-disc, 53-track box set that will include the dreampop icons’ final two albums plus two discs’ worth of B-sides, EP tracks, live radio sessions and rarities. Cherry Red Records this fall will update The Fall’s 2004 compilation 50,000 Fall Fans Can’t Be Wrong by expanding it to 58 tracks across three discs, bringing it up to date with the inclusion of music up to and including the title track from the late Mark E. Post-punk warriors Wire have announced plans to enter the studio next month to begin work on the band’s 17th album, as well as early explorations into making “a film about Wire by Wire” — a documentary that may ultimately be funded by fans through Kickstarter. The band also is touring Europe later this year.

]Yazoo – the classic synthpop duo of Alison Moyet and Vince Clarke that was christened Yaz in the U.S. – last month announced plans for a 4-disc box set collecting it two albums, plus remixes and BBC radio sessions that was to be released only on heavyweight vinyl and digital formats.  Now it’ll be released on CD, too.

A new hybrid concert film/documentary called “New Order: Decades” that chronicles the legendary band’s “So It Goes…” synth-orchestra collaboration with artist Liam Gillick will be broadcast on the U.K.’s Sky Arts network on Sept. 22. The film includes performance footage of the concert as well.

Having wrapped up their second consecutive summer tour with Violent Femmes, Echo & The Bunnymen today announced a fall North American headlining tour in support of The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon, the band’s forthcoming album of orchestral reworkings. See full dates here.

In late June, Mike Peters released the first album by The Alarm in eight years, an 11-song effort called Equals that features Billy Duffy of The Cult on one song. Now comes the music video for one of the album’s standouts: “Thirteen Dead Reindeer,” a driving rockers with some electronic flourishes.

4AD Records will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Pixies’ debut full-length Surfer Rosa next month with a dual reissue of that album and its 1987 predecessor, the eight-song mini-album Come On Pilgrim, that will include a bonus live set from 1986. Full details and tracklist right here.

As promised last month, Peter Murphy will embark on a world tour later this year with former bandmate David J to celebrate 40 years of their former band Bauhaus, a tour that will see the duo performing In the Flat Field in full in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the U.K. See full dates right here.

Less than a month after being forced to cut a tour short to recover from cancer treatment, Elvis Costello has announced his next studio album with his long-running combo The Imposters (ie, most of The Attractions) and debuted two of the songs that will appear on that record.
