Listen: The Chills, ‘Scarred’ — new track off upcoming album ‘Snow Bound’

It’s now less than a month before New Zealand indie-pop legends The Chills release their new album Snow Bound, and Martin Phillipps and Co. have premiered the third track off the record: the chunky rocker “Scarred,” which you can stream here. This follows the release of two songs off the record last month.

Though not officially announced, it appears a major archival project is in the works from R.E.M.: a nine-disc CD/DVD boxed set of BBC recordings that currently is listed for pre-order via Amazon in the U.K., along with a 2LP “best of” set culled from that larger collection. We’ll pass on more details as they emerge.

Wire to begin work on new album next month, plus they’re making ‘a film about Wire by Wire’

Post-punk warriors Wire have announced plans to enter the studio next month to begin work on the band’s 17th album, as well as early explorations into making “a film about Wire by Wire” — a documentary that may ultimately be funded by fans through Kickstarter. The band also is touring Europe later this year.

A new hybrid concert film/documentary called “New Order: Decades” that chronicles the legendary band’s “So It Goes…” synth-orchestra collaboration with artist Liam Gillick will be broadcast on the U.K.’s Sky Arts network on Sept. 22. The film includes performance footage of the concert as well.

In late June, Mike Peters released the first album by The Alarm in eight years, an 11-song effort called Equals that features Billy Duffy of The Cult on one song. Now comes the music video for one of the album’s standouts: “Thirteen Dead Reindeer,” a driving rockers with some electronic flourishes.
