Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Depeche Mode continues its celebration of the 12-inch single with the latest in its series of vinyl box sets, this one celebrating 1990’s mammoth Violator album with a 10-disc collection of the various 12-inches released to promote that record. Echo & The Bunnymen today announced a pair of warm-up concerts in San Diego and San Luis Obispo, Calif., in the days leading up to the band’s appearance at the Morrissey-headlined Cruel World festival outside of Los Angeles in early May. Check out full details right here.

David Byrne returned to “Saturday Night Live” last night for his third appearance in four decades, performing the Talking Heads classic “Once in a Lifetime” and the far more obscure cut “Toe Jam,” which he recorded in 2008 with Fatboy Slim’s The Brighton Port Authority project. Alice Bag, co-founder of the iconic first-generation Los Angeles punk act The Bags, this spring will release her third solo album, a collection called Sister Dynamite that is being described as a return to the “full-throttle punk” that her late-’70s band perfected. Sonic Youth co-founder Kim Gordon will embark on her first-ever solo tour this year, performing concerts across Europe and North America this spring and summer in support of her debut album No Home Record, which was released last October. Full dates and details right here.

Main Man Records this spring will release Hero: A Tribute to David Bowie, an ultra-limited white-vinyl LP — the label says just 300 copies are being pressed — that features The Alarm and members of Blondie, Sex Pistols, The Damned, Heaven 17 and more honoring the Thin White Duke. New Order and Pet Shop Boys today added a second stop at the Hollywood Bowl to their co-headlining “Unity Tour” following a quick sellout of the Los Angeles venue. Tickets for the newly added 12th show of their joint tour, set for Oct. 3, go on sale at 12 p.m. local time Friday, March 6.

The Cure today announced the band’s first live date of 2020, a headlining slot at the Open’er Festival in Poland on the Fourth of July. Reunited Paisley Underground-era rockers The Dream Syndicate this spring will release their third album of the new century, a collection of new songs called The Universe Inside that’s only five tracks long but clocks in at nearly an hour, thanks in part to 20-minute opening jam “The Regulator” — which you can hear in its entirety right here.

As we reported earlier this month, the Throwing Muses will release Sun Racket — their 10th studio album, and first in seven years — on the Fire Records label this May. Now you can get your first taste of Kristin Hersh and Co.’s new music in the form of lead-off single and album opener “Dark Blue,” a gnarled rocker that you can stream here.

David Roback, who helped create the neo-psychedelic Paisley Underground scene of the 1980s through his bands The Rain Parade and Opal before gaining his greatest acclaim alongside Hope Sandoval in Mazzy Star, died Monday, the Los Angeles Times reported. More details right here.
