The Japanese Popstars next week will release a 12-inch with remixes of ‘Take Forever,’ the track they recorded with Robert Smith on vocals — and thanks to the fine folks over at Astralwerks, one Slicing Up Eyeballs reader can win that plus a signed copy of the group’s remix 12-inch with an exclusive Depeche Mode mix.

R.E.M. today released not one but two music videos for its new, and likely final, single ‘We All Go Back To Where We Belong’ — one featuring actress Kirsten Dunst, the other performance artist John Giorno. Both, shot in black and white, simply show a close-up of the face of their subject set to the new single.

A new book called ‘From Heaven to Heaven: New Order Live — The Early Years (1981-1984) at Close Quarters’ will chronicle 3½ years on the road with the pioneering electronic-rock act via 400 previously unpublished photos, 200 images of rare memorabilia and the memories of author Dec Hickey, who attended each of those shows.

Eagle Rock Entertainment is teasing its upcoming Talking Heads live DVD and Blu-ray — the 18-track ‘Chronology,’ spanning 1975 to 1983 — with this rare, early performance of ‘Psycho Killer,’ filmed at New York club CBGB in 1975. The collection will be released Nov. 21.

Elvis Costello will commemorate this year’s revival of his ‘Spectacular Spinning Songbook’ — which debuted during a 1986 trek that saw him choosing setlists onstage via a giant spinning wheel — with a limited-edition box set featuring a CD, DVD and 10-inch vinyl EP culled from the performer’s May 11 and 12, 2011, shows in Los Angeles.

Peter Gabriel this week released his new concert film ‘New Blood: Live in London’ — which captures a performance earlier this year with his New Blood Orchestra — and to commemorate the release, the fine folks at Universal Music are providing us with four copies of the new DVD to give away to lucky Slicing Up Eyeballs readers.

Tonight’s episode of Slicing Up Eyeballs on Strangeways Radio featured brand-new music from R.E.M., Skinny Puppy, The dB’s and Jane’s Addiction, plus old favorites by The Cure, Violent Femmes, Pop Will Eat Itself and the reunited Stone Roses. Replay at 2 p.m. Eastern on Friday.

In honor of John Peel Day — during which we honor the legendary U.K. DJ/tastemaker on the anniversary of his passing — we present this hour-long documentary, ‘Turn That Racket Down,’ about the life and influence of John Peel that aired on the British television in the late 1990s.

Posters and album art by some of Manchester’s most iconic musical acts — including The Smiths, Morrissey, Joy Division, New Order, The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays — will go on display, and up for sale, at exhibition called ‘The Manchester Connection 1976-1992’ at a London gallery next month.
