Now we’ve got our first confirmation that something is indeed in the works to mark next year’s 40th anniversary, courtesy of film director Tim Pope, the man behind some of The Cure’s most iconic music videos (“Close To Me,” “The Love Cats”) and the full-length concert film “The Cure in Orange.”

The The’s highly anticipated 2018 return continues to grow, with the announcement this week that Matt Johnson and Co. will perform at the Iveagh Gardens in Dublin, Ireland, on July 7 — following a previously announced festival date in Denmark and three London dates in June. Tickets go on sale next week.

A month after returning to the stage in a wheelchair, Mark E. Smith’s health problems have forced the cancellation of three more concerts by The Fall this month, including, at the last minute, a gig in Bristol, England, last night and tonight’s planned performance in London. The band’s next scheduled shows are in New York in February.

The original lineup of Microdisney will reunite next June after 30 years apart for a one-off performance of their 1985 album The Clock Comes Down the Stairs, considered to be among the greatest Irish albums ever made, at Dublin’s National Concert Hall. The band will play on June 2.
