The enigmatic Dead Can Dance — led by co-founders and mainstays Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard — today announced the release for their ninth studio album, a song cycle of “seven movements representing different facets of the Dionysus myth and his cult.” The group also announced a European tour for spring 2019.
U.K. post-punk veterans The Monochrome Set will return to the U.S. early next year for a rare tour, playing nine dates — largely on the East and West coasts — as the group continues the celebration of the 40th anniversary of its formation. The U.S. tour opens March 1 in Boston and runs through March 10 in Los Angeles.
The three albums released by 4AD Records collective This Mortal Coil — led by label founder Ivo Watts-Russell, and featuring contributions from members of the Cocteau Twins, Dead Can Dance, Throwing Muses, Pixies and more — will be reissued next month in deluxe CD and LP editions. Elizabeth Fraser, the heavenly voice of the Cocteau Twins who only has played live a handful of times in the last two decades, performed a short set Monday evening in London at an invite-only event witnessed by about 40 people, according to social media accounts of the gig.
Conway Savage, the Australian musician who played piano and organ, and provided backing vocals, for Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds for more than a quarter-century, died Sunday night, about 10 months after the band revealed he was being treated for a brain tumor. He was 58.
