To mark the digital release this week of their first new album in a decade, the Throwing Muses are streaming another track off Purgatory/Paradise ahead of its publication as a 64-page book that will include the album on CD on Dec. 3. It’s one of 32 songs to appear on the Muses’ first album since the band’s 2003 self-titled record.

Canadian synthpop outfit Rational Youth is digging into its vaults with the release of a new 3CD archival set called Magic Box, which features a 27-song live album that was recorded in 1983 on two discs and a third CD collecting demos, 7-inch remixes and solo tracks from members Bill Vorn, Kevin Komoda, and Tracy Howe.

Hard to believe, but last night’s appearance by Nine Inch Nails on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” was billed as the band’s first-ever network television performance. Trent Reznor and Co., in Los Angeles to play the Staples Center, performed a mini concert on Kimmel’s outdoor stage, with “All Time Low” getting aired on the show.

They Might Be Giants’ ‘Flood,’ 3 others on Elektra getting expanded 2-albums-in-1 reissues

The four albums quirk-pop duo They Might Be Giants released on Elektra in the ’90s — starting with the group’s platinum-selling Flood, with its hit single “Birdhouse in Your Soul” — are being reissued in the U.K. next month by Edsel Records in a pair of “two-for-one” sets that pads out each disc with a handful of B-sides and remixes.
