Robert Smith called into Sirius XM this week to chat about The Cure’s induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame next year, and, along the way, revealed that work is nearing completion on the band’s first new album since 2008 and a Tim Pope-shot film of the group’s huge 40th anniversary concert in London.
Last month, Johnny Marr brought his old friend Matt Johnson onstage in London to perform a cover of the Lovin’ Spoonful’s 1966 single “Summer in the City” — their first time onstage together in 25 years. Turns out they also recorded a version of the song at soundcheck that night, and now have released it digitally.
Peter Murphy, currently touring Europe with his old Bauhaus bandmate David J, was thrown out of his own concert in Stockholm on Wednesday night for allegedly throwing a bottle into the audience and injuring a fan, according to Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter. Full details of what we know so far.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2019 will include one of the titans of alternative rock: The Cure, the dark-pop juggernaut that just celebrated its 40th anniversary and next year will be inducted alongside Roxy Music, Janet Jackson, Radiohead and more.
