The Smithereens will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Green Thoughts next month with a new digital compilation that collects live versions of songs from that album, song demos and radio recordings, much of which was recorded around 1988 — although some of the material comes from the ’90s.
Sonic Youth guitarist Lee Ranaldo returns this October with a new band — Lee Ranaldo & The Dust, featuring SY drummer Steve Shelley, plus guitarist Alan Licht and bassist Tim Lüntzel — and a new album, the 10-track Last Night on Earth, which will be released Oct. 8 by Matador Records, the label announced this week.
Having wrapped up touring and promotion of its recent singles collection, Killing Joke today announced the band will return to the studio this October to begin work on its third album for Universal/Spinefarm, with Kevin “Geordie” Walker already having demoed nine new songs.

New Model Army returns this fall with its 12th studio album and first in four years, a 14-track set dubbed Between Dog and Wolf on which the band debuts its new bassist and of which bandleader Justin Sullivan declares, “Sonically, this is the best album we’ve ever made, whilst creatively it has opened lots of new doors.”
