The Violent Femmes’ co-headlining tour of the U.S. with Echo & The Bunnymen got underway last week, and while the band was in New York, the trio stopped by “CBS This Morning” for an interview and live session that aired on the morning show’s Saturday edition.
Co-founders Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie discussed the band’s history, breakups and longevity with host Anthony Mason, and the group — including new drummer John Sparrow, playing brushes on a BBQ grill, and one of the Horns of Dilemma — performed “Kiss Off” from the band’s 1983 debut, “American Music” off 1991’s Why Do Birds Sing? and “I’m Nothing” from 1994’s New Times.
The Femmes, who released a new live album earlier this morning, continue their nearly month-long tour with the Bunnymen tonight in Pittsburgh (see full dates).
Below, check out the live performance clips, and the interview.

I saw the femmes every time they were near massachusetts or in massachusetts. One year in the mid to late 1990’s the guitarist offered my friend a beer. He declined(seriously). I still yell at him for that. Ive been listening to their music since the early 1980’s and just live them. I missed the Oct 7th 2016 concert due to my dad’s passing on that day, but the Violent Femmes still cheer me up with “Faith”.
Hope to meet them some day.
