After teasing fans last week, Matador Records this morning officially announced the Oct. 6 release of Mission of Burma’s third post-comeback LP, The Sound The Speed The Light, as well as a pre-release 7-inch due in August.
While the label hasn’t yet revealed the album’s tracklist, it did post a free MP3 of lead-off cut “1, 2, 3, Partyy!”
Matador describes the record as “a departure from the pinned-needles roar of 2006’s The Obliterati,” adding that it “sounds far more spacious and dynamic” and “is more or less divided into four sets or suites of three songs.”
The label reports: “The anthemic, catchy opener, our first MP3, is a classic Burma rocker on a level with ‘This Is Not A Photograph’ or ‘That’s How I Escaped My Certain Fate.’ Other tracks, such as ‘Feed,’ ‘Forget Yourself,’ and ‘Slow Faucet,’ the latter a live favorite for some time, are slow, hypnotic builders. ‘Good Cheer’ is a burst of almost uncontainable joy and fun that literally explodes from the speakers.”
Plus, on Aug. 18, the band will release a 7-inch single featuring non-album tracks “Innermost” and “Here it Comes,” Matador revealed today.
