The latest weekly installment in Beck’s Record Club’s full-album cover of INXS 1987 smash Kick is a bit late, but here it is nonetheless: “Mediate,” the sorta spoken-word thing that’s appended to “Need You Tonight” on the album and in the band’s hit music video. For this cut, Beck and his regular cohorts on the Kick project — St. Vincent, Liars and Os Mutantes — give the track a lyrical makeover, with Liars’ Angus Andrew throwing out nonsensical lines like “go rape an ape” and references to Jon & Kate. To me it still seems like they find this as a joke. This was suppose to be a serious political song. I am not amused.
